A Mexican-French study-visit on ecological connectivity

A Mexican-French study tour was organized by AFD -Agence Française de développement and Expertise France to share best practices on ecological connectivity.

The French hub for protected areas and people has welcomed in the Grand East Region a Mexican delegation comprising the environment ministers of nine Mexican States and the Director of CONANP – Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas. For three days, the delegation was able to discover the actions deployed to promote ecological connectivity throughout the Grand East region, in different types of natural areas: Lorraine Regional Nature Park, Rupt de Mad N2000 area, Lorraine Conservatoire d’espaces naturels sites, Lachaussée Regional Nature Reserve and the territory of the city and Eurometropole of Metz.

Carried out as part of the BioConnect project funded by the AFD – Agence Française de développement, exchanges and experience-sharing with local players provided inputs for strengthening inter- and intra-institutional governance, the key to better connecting natural areas, sustainable territorial management and biodiversity preservation.

Beneficial and inspiring for both Mexico and France, this sharing of best practices and the identification of common challenges are fuelling the construction of future technical cooperation initiatives.
