France’s protected areas to inspire a future protected area in Indonesia
From July 11th to 15th, France has welcomed an Indonesian delegation of 5 experts with a view to creating a natural park in the Likupang region. This week was an opportunity for the Foundation Indonesia Biru and the Indonesian authorities to understand France’s action in terms of international cooperation on protected areas, to meet stakeholders in the field and to promote protected area management tools.
The meeting of managers of various Protected areas in southern France (Parc naturel regional de Camargue, Réserve naturelle régionale du Scamandre, Parcs nationaux des Calanques et de Port Cros) allowed the delegation to understand the different models of protection that exist in France, and how those overlap and complement each other, depending on the local context, which are of particular interest for the creation of a protected area in Likupang. A bilateral technical dialogue will be held before the end of 2023, to explore in greater depth the avenues of cooperation between France and Indonesia on this subject.
